Sharing by Rose Chao – regarding her experience of providing Healing Hands of Universal Love service at New York’s St. Vincent Hospital
                                                                             July 18, 2005
The background of my involvement with doing healing hands at St. Vincent Hospital & Medical Center of New York rose out of the visit by a fellow chi-mate Heather Ding when she was so moved by the events following September 11, 2000 to the World Trade Center in New York City. She flew out to New York City and wanted to get involved with volunteers offering their help to those who suffered from the tragedy of 9/11. As it turned out I brought her to St. Vincent Hospital, one of the nearest hospital to the World Trade Center. It was there that we worked with other volunteers that we got
involved with showcasing our Healing Hands of Universal Love. Heather Ding has returned to California, but a number of the New York City chapter members have volunteered continuously at St. Vincent.
Out of that volunteer experiences the program has evolved into the Stress Management Integrated Clinic. The Clinic is part of the Behavior Health Department. Twice a week, the clinic offers free of charge various healing modalities to those people in the community in need to deal with the various stress related symptom arising from the events of 9/11. The main component of the clinic is anchored by the offering of ear acupuncture treatment, other modalities of complement energy work such as reiki, johrei, feldenkrais, massages, polarity, cranial sacral and reflexology as well as healing hands are offered.

For myself in the 4+ years since my association with the clinic, I usually will see about 10 clients each time. The most common reactions shared by the receivers of healing hands are the sense of relaxation and general well being from the experience. For those who are extremely fatigue the experience can often put them into a gentle slumber or a quick energy recharge. Occasionally I will have an emotional response from the receivers. One time a young woman cried softly while I gave her a session of healing hand. Upon completion I asked if she will share with me what transpired. She told me she was about to be evicted from her dwelling and there was money problem at hand. She fell very helpless and hopeless, the crying was an outlet of those feeling. However, she also felt there was hope and a belief that she can cope with the situation at hand. Another time a client who has lost her father recently unexpectedly in an auto accident was able to have a good cry that previously was denied to her. I think that when I offered my services of Healing Hand I send out my blessings and offer my unconditional positive regards to the individual in front of me. I believe that intention is received each time. The manifestation of result of such interaction may differ from person to person.

Looking back to my overall experience, I feel that my own reaction has also evolved. At first when I offered the healing hands services it was a compassion ministry to taking care of people who were less fortunate than myself. From that experience I learned to appreciate all that I have been blessed with. As the time progress I find giving Healing Hands was a great way towards my personal cultivation. While performing Healing Hands I become almost in a meditated state whereby I become inner directed, centered and very resonated with my spirit. It is during these times I feel oneness with the universe and totally fulfilled.

Love and Light,
Rose
