Family case 2: Grief

This tragic incident occurred when my daughter was a junior in high school.

During a long weekend, one of her teachers committed suicide by shooting himself in his home.

The news of this tragic event quickly spread amongst all the students through the internet. When my daughter told us the news, we were all shocked.Although she did not show it, my daughter was shaken and frightened – her world was no longer safe.

After the 3 day weekend, as I was getting her ready for school on Tuesday morning, I noticed that she was unusually quiet, sluggish and unresponsive.Concerned about her emotional well being, I decided that she needed HHUL right away.

As soon as I placed my hands on her, she burst into tears.Underneath her stoic exterior, her emotions were in complete turmoil. As she cried, I continued to apply HHUL to her.I also began talking to her in a soothing manner, reassuring her of our love, telling her that she would not be abandon since we planned to live a long time.

Eventually, she ceased crying and felt a little better.By then, we were quite late for school, but I felt that she needed to be at school, to be a part of the mourning process of the whole school, so I took her to school anyway.

When I picked her up in the afternoon, she told me that they had a mourning session where she and one other girl cried, the rest of the students were silent, perhaps still in shock.

How I wished then that every parent could have had HHUL and had been able to help their child with their grief.
