Dharma - Walking Backwards with Ease and Openness

By Dr. Michael Chou - Excerpted and translated from US Teleconference Guidance on 12/21/2003

In order to walk backwards with ease and openness, push backwards with your whole back as if you are pushing against a door panel. Pretend that there is a door panel behind you, and you are pushing against it as you walk backwards. Just continue to walk like this, and your heart will be opened.

A lot of people may seem to be walking with ease and openness, but in reality they are still walking with some degree of fear, and are not really walking with ease and openness.

If you are not yet able to walk backwards with ease and openness, and you still feel somewhat fearful, then you need to ask another chi-mate to support you. How do you know that you are not fearful? It is as if you have eyes in your back, and you have no desire to check the back; whereas if you are still worried about whether you will bump into things or other people, and are still not at ease, then that means you are still fearful.
